Lesson 3 - Collecting Data With an Experiment

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Collecting Data With an Experiment, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

 

Goals

Collect firsthand data by doing an experiment.

Record data on tally charts.

 

Instructions for Use

Probability lets students collect firsthand data by doing an experiment, and record it on tally charts.

To use Probability, start by selecting the dice. Choose the number of spins - 1, 5, or 10. Click the "Spin" button. A tally chart records the results of each spin. Press the "Clear Tally" button to clear the results and start again.

Select the "Make Dice" button and click in the radio buttons to choose the numbers of each face of the dice. Select the "New Dice" button to choose different set amounts on the face of the dice.

Students may want to experiment with the spinners. To use the spinners, select one and choose the number of spins. Click the "Spin" button. A tally chart records the results of each spin. Press the "Clear Tally" button to clear the results and start again.
